About Us
Community Caregivers, Inc. was founded in 1994 in Altamont, NY as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. With the help of a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the founders used the Parish Nurse Program as a model in developing the organization. Our mission is to enable individuals of all ages to maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life within their homes and communities. Community Caregivers provides non-medical support services to those in need. Services are offered to residents of the Albany County Towns of Guilderland, Bethlehem, New Scotland, Berne, Knox and Rensselaer county.We support family caregivers with education, resources and, for some, respite from caregiving.
We operate with a robust volunteer network of dedicated individuals who want to help their neighbors. Over the past 5 years, our dedicated corps of Community Caregivers volunteers have provided approximately 17,658 hours of services to nearly 1,161 clients in the communities we serve. Services include transportation, friendly visits, respite for caregivers, shopping assistance, prescription pickup and telephone assurance callsThe organization is guided by a Board of Directors consisting of community members, business leaders, and professionals from healthcare and other fields; the office is staffed with a small team of dedicated employees. Services are provided at no charge regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation or national origin. The organization is funded by charitable contributions, fundraising and grants.
