Volunteer of the Month Selection Guidelines

Each month, we like to recognize one of our volunteers for making a special difference in the lives of our neighbors and in Community Caregivers.  Your input into the process of selecting this Volunteer of the Month would be a great addition!  We’d like to hear from other volunteers, clients and members of the community, many of whom may have a much better opportunity than the office does to see our volunteers in action.

The CC committee that deals with such sticky issues, the Volunteer Recruitment, Education and Recognition Committee, has developed some guidelines for how the selection process will now be carried out.

  •       As you see a Caregivers volunteer in action, or hear of one who has provided much appreciated service to a neighbor in need, or serve on a committee with someone who routinely makes a special contribution, please write, call or email the office with that volunteer’s name and a few brief words of why you feel that recognition as Volunteer of the Month is appropriate.

  •        Nominations received by the first of the month will be reviewed by staff, and the Volunteer of the Month selected from among those nominated.

  •       We think that these volunteers are Very Special People, and our Board of Directors’ President or the CC Executive Director will contact them, first with a phone call, and then with a letter of congratulations.

  •      Then we’ll announce our Volunteer of the Month in this column.

  •  Mike Breslin, Albany County Executive, also believes that Community Caregivers’ Volunteers of the Month deserve special recognition. We let his office know of each month’s choice.

The Volunteer of the Month meets at least one of the following criteria:

  •        Practices the volunteer role with skill and compassion.

  •         Demonstrates by actions a strong commitment to the mission and purpose of Community Caregivers.

  •         Demonstrates to those with whom she/he works a thorough understanding of the role of the volunteer.

  •         Participates with enthusiasm in volunteer training exercises and/or organizational events.

  •        Serves as an ambassador on behalf of Community Caregivers.

  •        Supports the staff and serves as a key member of the Community Caregivers team.

  •        Demonstrates excellent organizational and communication skills.

  •       Goes beyond expectations in performing her/his role.

All members of Community Caregivers Inc. are eligible for Volunteer of the Month.

A Volunteer of the Month may be nominated by anyone using the criteria approved by the Board of Directors.

Previously nominated Volunteers of the Month may be eligible for nomination after one year.

The language of the criteria will be woven into the description of the Volunteer of the Month published in the Caregivers Corner column.

So that’s the official information.  Do you know someone who qualifies, who should be recognized for their service to their neighbors and to Community Caregivers?  Please let us know.  Call the office at 456-2898, or send an email to info@communitycaregivers.org.   The address is 2113 Western Ave, Suite 4, Guilderland, NY 12084.

Thanks for helping, and thanks for helping us to recognize those who are helping others.
